A message from the District Manager... Tim Costello

I’d like to congratulate the National Association of Letter Carriers for another successful food drive.  All the numbers aren’t in yet, but it looks like Dallas will once again, be one of the top locations in the country with the amount of food collected.  Visit the Dallas District blog at the following link http://dallasproud.blogspot.com/ to see pictures from this year’s food drive.  All postal employees that supported this year’s food drive by collecting, sorting, donating or helping to get the word out, should be Dallas Proud of this outstanding achievement.

This week, the Postal Service will be participating in the National Postal Forum.  The National Postal Forum (NPF) has partnered with the Postal Service to present the mailing and shipping industry’s premier educational venue, trade show and networking event.  Held once a year in the spring, the four-day NPF is the only event that works directly with USPS managers to provide the most comprehensive educational and networking platform possible for meeting the needs of industry and postal customers.

One of the new services featured at the NPF this year is Informed Delivery, which provides customers with a digital preview of their incoming mail. The number of users is approaching two million and participation is growing.  In the future, businesses will be able to create “digital add-ons” to these previews, boosting the value of the mail – and Informed Delivery – to consumers.
Dallas, TX, Lakewood Station Letter Carrier Donald Williamson, was recently featured on a local television station that reported on Informed Delivery.  See pictures from the report and more information about Informed Delivery on page 20.   If you haven’t already signed up for this exciting new service, I encourage you to do so today.
Next month, school will be out and children will begin more outdoor activities.  And when children are outside, many times they are accompanied by the family pet.  Please ensure you’re following all safety precautions when driving and delivering the mail.  We want everyone to arrive home safely.  Summer also means family vacations.  Many post offices in the district have been hosting passport fairs.  Passport application acceptance is one of the many convenient services we offer that also helps us to increase revenue.  Keep hosting those passport fairs and let’s get our customers ready for some summer fun!
