A message from the District Manager Scott Hooper…

Ensuring Every Vote Counts With less than 40 days left before Election Day, November 4, 2020, it’s important to talk about our role in the democratic process. The Postal Service has a long, proud history of service to the nation, which is even more heightened during election season. We are entrusted with securely delivering ballots to voters and getting those ballots back to election officials as swiftly as possible, to ensure every person’s vote counts. We’re also charged with delivering political mail, which is any material used for political campaign purposes by a registered political candidate, a campaign committee, or a committee of a political party. Providing timely, accurate and secure handling of both election and political mail is a major responsibility and one we all have to take seriously. All employees play a part to in making sure we are vigilant in identifying and properly handling election and political mail, all the way from the Business Mail Entry Units, to the plants, on the docks, in our vehicles, and at the delivery units. Here are some important reminders to help you know the differences between Political Mail and Election Mail tags: • Red Tag 57, for Political Mail, should be used for any political campaign mailing by a registered candidate, campaign committee, and committee of a political party. • Green Tag 191 should only be used to identify ballot mail addressed for domestic or international delivery. All ballot mail is time sensitive and should be processed and delivered expeditiously. One of the most important public functions for the Postal Service is serving as a trusted partner in our nation’s electoral process. Thank you for keeping our country strong by ensuring both election and political mail are processed as quickly as possible, so they can be delivered to America’s voters.
