Last week we
recognized and showed our appreciation to the brave men and women who have
served and are continuing to serve our country in the military service. We publicly acknowledged and recognized them
for their sacrifice and the sacrifices of their family and friends. The Dallas District employs over 2,000
military veterans and it is always an honor for me to recognize these men and
women who continue to serve the American public in their jobs with the Postal
Service.
This week we
will celebrate Thanksgiving. We will
join together with family and friends and give thanks for our many
blessings. Many of us will take
advantage of Black Friday sales. So will
our customers. This year, our package volume
is projected to grow ten percent. That’s
more than 850 million packages across the country. The Dallas District processes and delivers
our fair share of those packages each year and this year will be no different.
Peak Season is
upon us and our customers are looking to us to collect, accept and deliver all
their holiday greeting cards and packages.
When we return to work after the Thanksgiving holiday, we must do so
with holiday cheer and a sense of urgency.
Every day our lobbies will be filled with customers who want swift and
courteous service. Their greeting cards
and packages will fill our processing plants to capacity and will need our
employees to ensure precise processing and distribution to the correct station
or post office so our letter carriers can make the final delivery with accurate
scanning.
This is our
season and every single one of us contributes to our success. Let’s make this a successful peak season and
ensure our customers receive the best we have to offer.
If driving is a
part of your job, I encourage you to take special care, as this week brings
many visitors to the area who only visit during Thanksgiving and may be
unfamiliar with the roadways. I want you
to be safe so that you can enjoy the holiday, too.
I thank you all
for the jobs you do each and every day and wish each of you and your families a
safe, happy and healthy Thanksgiving!
