Spreading Good Cheer ePromotion - Day 2

Finding the Cheer for Yourself

During this time of year, many people may wish you a “happy holiday season” but maybe you are having trouble finding the happy. You might be stressed, feeling a financial crush of holiday spending, or missing loved ones you have lost. While you may be “wished” a happy holiday, others may not be doing much to help ensure that you have it. Don’t wait for others to gift you happiness. Create it for yourself.
This holiday, give yourself the gift of finding cheer. This doesn’t mean you have to go out and max out your credit card on a big, expensive gift for yourself. It doesn’t even mean that you have to give yourself a store-bought gift at all. It means to gift yourself with happiness, with cheer. Each day offers things to find joy in. Every time you wake up there is something to be thankful for and to smile about.
Don’t look over the little gifts throughout each day that you should be taking pride and joy in. First, you woke up. This is a “gift” denied to many. Now, what’s your second thing to be happy about today? What’s your third? How many things can you find throughout your day that can help bring cheer to your life? See if you can find more tomorrow!

Spreading Good Cheer ePromotion - Day 1

Sharing a Smile of Support to Coworkers
Are you stressed, tired, and feeling the effects of being over-holidayed? Guess what? Chances are so are your coworkers. So, instead of going onto break complaining about the latest fiasco at the shopping center sales or going on about how worried you are about finding that perfect gift, approach your coworkers with good cheer.
Smile, wave hello, ask them how they are doing, wish them a great day. Maybe you baked some holiday goodies that you could share or you could include them in your holiday card mailing. Instead of adding to their stress, find something to do to help them reduce their stress.
Just hearing a positive word of encouragement or seeing someone whistle through their day may be enough for them to adjust their negative thoughts and help them turn them into a more positive, happy outlook.
Smiles are contagious. See if you can spark a chain reaction of good cheer this holiday season.

Spreading Good Cheer ePromotion - Invitation

The holiday season can mean many things … especially if you are a USPS employee. While your personal life may be filled with holiday preparations, activities, and spirit, your work life is probably filled with long shifts, anxious customers, and a larger-than-normal mail volume. Especially during this busy time of year, it is important to remember how your job directly impacts your customers, how your disposition influences your coworkers, and how your own attitude affects yourself. It is helpful to remember your responsibility in spreading good cheer always and specifically during this time of year. The USPS EAP in your District is preparing to run an ePromotion titled, “Spreading Good Cheer” and we would like to invite you to sign up. This ePromotion will send emails that help you to remember your part in spreading good cheer to those around you.

An ePromotion is a series of emails sharing brief information to help you actively engage in a topic. The EAP invites you to sign up to participate by responding to this invitation. With this ePromotion, you will receive a total of 5 emails over two weeks starting on November 28.

You may use your postal or home email address and your participation is strictly confidential. Please feel free to share the daily emails with your co-workers and family members and encourage them to sign up as well.

If you would like more information or to sign up, please contact me by email at tlsitrin@MagellanHealth.com or by calling 214-353-6996.

If you would like more information on mindfulness and to work with a coach to aid you, please contact me directly or by calling 800-327-4968 (TTY: 877-492-7341).

A Message from the District Manager...

Last week we recognized and showed our appreciation to the brave men and women who have served and are continuing to serve our country in the military service.  We publicly acknowledged and recognized them for their sacrifice and the sacrifices of their family and friends.  The Dallas District employs over 2,000 military veterans and it is always an honor for me to recognize these men and women who continue to serve the American public in their jobs with the Postal Service.

This week we will celebrate Thanksgiving.  We will join together with family and friends and give thanks for our many blessings.  Many of us will take advantage of Black Friday sales.  So will our customers.  This year, our package volume is projected to grow ten percent.  That’s more than 850 million packages across the country.  The Dallas District processes and delivers our fair share of those packages each year and this year will be no different.

Peak Season is upon us and our customers are looking to us to collect, accept and deliver all their holiday greeting cards and packages.  When we return to work after the Thanksgiving holiday, we must do so with holiday cheer and a sense of urgency.  Every day our lobbies will be filled with customers who want swift and courteous service.  Their greeting cards and packages will fill our processing plants to capacity and will need our employees to ensure precise processing and distribution to the correct station or post office so our letter carriers can make the final delivery with accurate scanning.

This is our season and every single one of us contributes to our success.  Let’s make this a successful peak season and ensure our customers receive the best we have to offer.

If driving is a part of your job, I encourage you to take special care, as this week brings many visitors to the area who only visit during Thanksgiving and may be unfamiliar with the roadways.  I want you to be safe so that you can enjoy the holiday, too.

I thank you all for the jobs you do each and every day and wish each of you and your families a safe, happy and healthy Thanksgiving!

3 Month Anniversary of Hurricane Harvey

Prosper, TX, Postmaster Jim Spradley will have an elementary school named after him coming in August, 2018.  Supervisor, Customer Services Stacy Auten remarked, “I cannot think of a greater legacy for such a wonderful person, than to have a school named after him.  I’m very proud of Mr. Spradley.”  This article can be found on the Eagle Express website at the following link.

Rockwall, TX, Retail Associate Rhonda Teague (left) received her second Gold Star Award from Supervisor, Customer Services Tony Dickens (right) for a perfect transaction on a Retail Customer Experience.  She has worked for the Postal Service for 30 years and enjoys interacting with her customers. Teague commented, “I’m proud knowing that we provide excellent service to our customers.”

Mount Pleasant, TX, Lead Retail Associate Phyllis Freeman received her third Gold Star in a row for a perfect transaction on a Retail Customer Experience.  She has served in all aspects of the Post Office.  Such as Supervisor, Customer Services, Retail Coach, On the Job Trainer for Window Clerks and as a representative for several EEO cases.  Freeman makes it a point to know your name, your needs and your box number.  She knows all her customers personally.  Mount Pleasant has received the Mineola Award and has earned over 30 Gold Star Awards since the program started.  Freeman remarked, “It takes all of us working as a team to receive these awards.  The other Clerks are equally as good and have earned many Gold Star Awards.  It’s all about the customer.”

Sulphur Springs, TX, Post Office received a customer compliment from a satisfied customer. Pictured (from left to right) are Supervisor, Customer Services Tiffany Beggs; Letter Carriers Kevin Rape; Dena Snider; Postmaster Michael Arrambidez; Retail Associate Anita Riggs; Letter Carrier Jason Forward ; Retail Associate and T-7 Christine Miles; Retail Associate Brad McCool; Supervisor, Customer Services Sherry Vanicek; Maintenance Mechanic Tommy Collins; Distribution Clerk Jimmy Moon; Retail Associate Darin Deaton and Maintenance Mechanic Heath Beggs.

Dear Sulphur Springs Post Office,

Twenty six years ago while in the sands of Saudi Arabia, mail call for myself and my platoon made the difference between life and death.  Now in 2017, y ’all are again making the difference between life and death.  This time it is for my family and friends in Puerto Rico.  While UPS, FedEx and even FEMA are dropping the ball, y ‘all are running with it.

That whole motto about getting the mail through rain and sleet and snow is not just a saying, it’s a reality.  The packages I’m bringing to you here in Sulphur Springs are arriving in less than a week to a tiny village in Puerto Rico.  That village is no bigger than Como, Texas.  Even though virtually the entire village was destroyed (even my own house) and left with no electricity, rain still coming down for an hour or so every day and brown water coming out of the tap.  Y ‘all are getting the job done and again saving lives.

There are many unsung heroes in this world.  You all count as such.  You may think that you’re just doing your job but know that it’s making a difference.

Please accept my most heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for a job well done.

 Sincerely,

 Satisfied Customer
