A message from the District Manager...

May I have the envelope, please?

The winners for September’s Safety Video contest have been selected and I’m proud to announce that the video from the Terrell Post Office is the First Place winner.  Second Place goes to Richland Station and Third Place goes to Lake Highlands Station.

Judging the videos was tough and the scores were all very close.  But the panel of judges was finally able to select a winner from eight videos that were submitted.

I hope that more employees get engaged with the contest and submit a video for November’s Safety Video Contest.  The theme for next month’s contest is proper lifting.

In addition to the Safety Video Contest, we have also started a “You’ve Been Caught” Safety Recognition program.  You’ll be hearing more about it soon—hopefully when “You Get Caught” working safely.

Two of the winning videos have been posted to the Dallas District webpage.  I encourage you to view them at the following link: http://southwest.fws.usps.gov/sites/dallas/hr/safety/safetyvideo2/SitePages/Home.aspx

Thank you for your contributions to our continued effort to make the Dallas District a safe place to work!

Supervisor, Customer Services Bryon Blair

Dear Ms. Jones and Mr. Blair,
Thank you for your kind assistance in resolving the late/missing mail situation this month.  Once you explained that our regular Carrier, Tyra had been attacked by a dog (a terrible thing) and that the mail was and will be late because other Carriers had to/will fill in for her during her recovery and partial return to work, I was able to relax a bit.  But the missing mail situation was wreaking havoc on my husband’s and my business and our family.
I appreciate that both of you worked diligently to discover the reason and ensure that our mail eventually was delivered.  Without both of you assisting in this situation, I’d be one crazy customer. Thank you!
Please let Tyra know that we hope for a speedy recovery and that we thank her for her service.
Thank you again! Y ’all take care,
Loyal customer

On October 11, 2017 a customer came into the Center Post Office with an envelope postmarked February 21, 1976.  It was a letter that his father, who was the owner of a boot repair shop in Center, TX. received from a customer wanting his boots repaired.  The interesting thing about this letter is it has no address but a map showing the location of the boot shop.  Not knowing the address but providing a description of the location he sent the letter hoping that the Post Office would deliver it to its destination. The letter was delivered and the customer received the needed repairs to his boots.  It goes to show that the Postal Service does live up to its motto, “We Deliver!”

Duncanville went from a 50% failure rate for Wait Time In Line in 2016 to a 100% success rate in 2017.  The turnaround was attributed to the Clerks knowing to call for help when needed and management making sure someone responds to that request in a timely manner.  Postmaster Stacy Taplin (second right below) credits having a working IP address for her webcam in order to spot when the lobby is getting busy and said communication is the key.  However, the most important thing of all is they made a decision as a team to make a change.
Duncanville, TX, Retail Associate Glenda Richard (center, holding certificate) received her first Gold Star Award from Manager, Post Office Operations Brandi Smith (far right); Acting Retail Manager Randi Klement (far left); Postmaster Stacy Taplin (second right); Supervisor, Customer Services Scott McCain (third left) for a perfect transaction on a Retail Customer Experience.  She was joined by her fellow Retail Associate Linda Huron (second left) and Distribution Clerk Donna Barrera (third right).  Richard started her Postal career in June and is a U.S. Army veteran.  She enjoys coming to work every day and interacting with her customers.  Richards remarked, “My co-workers are great.  They always help me out if I need assistance.”  She recently married in July and has four kids and five grandkids.

Mr. Malone

I visited the Irving Main Post Office on Saturday September 30, 2017.  I walked in at 11:52 am and walked out at 12:02 pm.  When I got in line there were 15 people ahead of me with four SSAs and a lobby of folks waiting for passports (they also had a passport fair going).

I want to specifically commend your employee Vita (hope I’m spelling that correctly).  Not only did she help five of the people ahead of me herself, she gave a WONDERFUL little broadcast to the lobby stating they were very busy and were working as quickly as possible to ensure that everyone was helped.  She was SO POLITE.  She had the greatest demeanor as she was friendly, professional, and helped several people all at once.  She even swept the line stating where people could find things (drop off parcels, express labels, and other supplies).  She also had a customer come to her window with a package not ready.  In less than one minute she gave him supplies, some direction, and had him packaging his box while she helped the next customer.  Both of them were out of the line within approximately 2 minutes.

If I were to become a Postmaster, I would definitely try and get her to work for me.  I used to give Gold Stars and I don’t know if you have any sort of recognition you can give like a Certificate of Appreciation, but I did stop and get her name telling her she was doing an excellent job.

I copied Mike Cook on here because if he is ever doing a video for the area and this employee is willing, she would be fantastic to film.

I live in Irving and thank you as a customer.  Great job to your team.
