Wylie, TX, Post Office held their 4th Annual Chili Cook Off on February 2, 2017. The Judges were (from left to right) Rural Carrier Nick Malone, Supervisor, Customer Services Justin O'Neal and Rural Carrier Assistant Amber Harris. 
The Winners of the 4th Annual Wylie Post Office Chili Cook Off were (from left to Right) Retail Associate Ernesto Martinez (First Place), Rural Carrier Assistant Aracely Robles (Second Place) and Honorable Mention went to Rural Carrier Assistant Sean Phillips.  Ernesto Martinez has taken the first place prize two years in a row.  Prizes were awarded to the winners and everyone had a great time sampling all the chili.

Lewisville, TX, Letter Carrier Devante Lacy (left) received the PMG Hero Award from Postmaster Thomas Alonzo (right).  He spotted an elderly gentleman in distress while delivering Amazon packages on Sunday.  Lacy was next door delivering a package when he noticed an elderly gentleman laying in the grass near the pavement.  The elderly gentleman was in the process of mowing his lawn and suffered a stroke. With the help of a neighbor, he picked up the gentleman and took him into his house.  Emergency responders were contacted and the man has made a full recovery.  Lacy remarked, “I enjoy helping people and having a job where everyone likes you.”  He played professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals before becoming a Mail Carrier.

Dallas District Marketing Manager Karen Schott (far right) and Manager, Consumer & Industry Contact Vanessa Wallace (far left) recognized (left to right) Complaints & Inquiry Clerks Karl Hooks II, Kathie Cook, Deborragh Lawson, Rhonda Buggs, Becky Alvarado, Rose Ranck and Chutanyjia Ware for their great performance.  Dallas District Consumer Affairs Division was recognized for having the lowest number of year to date reopened Enterprise Customer Care (ECC) cases (1.61%) compared to the total number of Enterprise cases.

Linden, TX, Rural Carrier Roger Conn was on his rural route and noticed suspicious characters at a customer’s residence.  He mentally noted all he could and contacted the resident.  Sure enough, there had been a break-in and robbery.  With Roger’s assistance to the sheriff’s department, the suspects were apprehended in a day and the stolen property was recovered.  Postmaster Lenda Spradling commented, “Roger Conn is just another example of Postal Service employees helping in their rural communities.”
