A message from the District Manager Scott Hooper…

Staying Informed and Aware While we are not aware of any specific threats against the Postal Service, recent events in the world reinforce our need to remain vigilant. Therefore, as part of my commitment to help keep Dallas District employees safe, I want to remind everyone of what to do in an Active Shooter situation. An Active Shooter is defined as an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area, typically through the use of firearms. An active shooter can be anyone: a customer, a stranger, a current employee, or a former employee. Although no one can predict when and where these incidents may occur, I want to make sure you know about steps you can take to help protect yourself and those around you. If you ever find yourself in an active shooter situation, whether at work, home, or out in public, remember these guidelines: • Get out - Have an escape route and plan that can accommodate people with disabilities. Leave your belongings behind. Keep your hands visible when law enforcement arrives. Don’t wait for approval to move quickly out of the area. • Call out - Communicate the threat to everyone by shouting, phoning and texting “Shooter in the building, escape now!” or “Active shooter, run!” Call 911 when it’s safe to do so. • Hide out - If you can’t escape, hide in an area out of the shooter’s sight. Lock doors and block entry to the hiding place. Silence cell phones and all electronics. When it’s safe, get out. • Take out - If your life is in danger and you have no way to escape or hide, incapacitate or overpower the shooter by whatever means necessary as a last resort.
