Carrollton, TX Main Post Office Lead Retail Associate Roman Hailemariam (above) has a heartwarming story on achieving the American dream.  In 1999, she was living in Ethiopia and won a diversity lotto to come to the United States.  Hailemariam arrived in Atlanta to a family friend in March of 2000.  She got her first job at a gas station and then got a second job at a smoothie company.  In 2001, she met her husband who worked for the Post Office and moved to Dallas.  Hailemariam received her citizenship in 2008 and they moved to Louisiana in 2011, when she applied for a job as a clerk.  Hailemariam came back to Dallas in 2013 and worked at the Northaven Station before transferring to the Carrollton Main Post Office where she has been giving exceptional customer service to the people of Carrollton on a daily basis.  She remarked, “I love my job and I love America.  Working here gave me a great deal of experience and I want to move up the ladder.  This is the best country in the world.  You can do anything and be anyone here.  It changed my life for the better.”

Plano, TX, Northwest Station Distribution Clerk Marcus Hawley (above) received an employee compliment.

On May 22, 2019, around 1:15pm a customer who spoke Spanish had been coming in several times but we were unable to assist him because he couldn’t speak English.  We gave him Consumer Affairs number as well as the 1-800-ASK-UPPS to speak with a bilingual representative.  Still unsuccessful, I remembered Marcus Hawley spoke Spanish and gave him a call.  He was off work and I explained the situation to him and while on speaker he began to translate.  Not only did Marcus translate but he wanted me to text him the customer’s information so he could let our clerk to follow up as well.  I wanted to shine the spotlight on an employee that went the extra mile.

Sincerely,

Selvia Harris
