A message from the District Manager Scott Hooper

Highlighting Our Business Customers This week marks National Postal Customer Council (PCC) Week, where we take time to recognize and appreciate the partnership between our organization and business mailers. PCC week provides local PCC audiences (businesses, non-profits, colleges/universities, mail service providers, printers, etc.) the opportunity to hear from and interact with Postal officers and executives. Each of us, no matter what job we perform, has a stake in the success of the PCCs. When you provide the best possible service, you help build our business and strengthen the partnership with our PCC members. Don’t stop there, though. I encourage all employees to take time and become familiar with all the products and services we provide. Submit a lead through one of our Employee Engagement Programs, like Clerks Care, Customer Connect, Business Connect, Rural Reach. We also recently launched our newest same-day local delivery service, Connect Local, here in the Texas 1 district. It’s our responsibility to grow the business by actively engaging customers and finding new sources of revenue. And remember that doing the simple things also grows the business, whether it’s being courteous on the phone, providing friendly service at retail and BME counters, accurately sorting mail and packages, properly scanning and handling packages, and delivering in a safe, efficient and courteous manner. If we don’t take care of our customers, someone else will. Our business mailers – in fact, every customer – deserves our best effort every day. As we take time to celebrate PCC Week, let’s be sure to continue providing superior service every week of the year. Thank you for helping serve not just our business customers, but all of our customers.

A message from the District Manager Scott Hooper…

As Classes Resume, Watch Out for Students Many schools resumed classes either last week or this week, and I want to take this opportunity to remind all our employees who operate motor vehicles to watch out for children — especially those who are distracted. I urge you as a driver, to take extra precautions to avoid accidents by staying alert and driving defensively. Children can be unpredictable and don’t always look both ways before crossing streets. We can prepare for the back-to-school driving season by following a few simple safety tips: • Slow Down. The speed limit in school zones is 20 mph, so be sure to cover the brake pedal, while scanning the road for kids when entering a marked school zone. • Yield to School Buses. Exercise caution when approaching a school bus or driving near bus stops. NEVER pass a school bus from either direction while its lights are flashing, and children are entering or exiting the bus. Drivers must remain stopped until the bus begins to move. • Provide plenty of distance from bicyclists, especially young or novice riders. • Never talk on your phone or send text messages while driving. • Avoid handing mail directly to children from a delivery vehicle. If children approach, get out of the vehicle and ask them to move away. Double-check around the entire vehicle before proceeding. • Never back up to redeliver a missed box. Get out of the vehicle and walk back, if you can do so safely. • Adjust your mirrors to be able to see around your vehicle before you leave your office. Thank you for your continued service to our customers, who trust us to deliver the mail safely, efficiently, and reliably. Remember that you represent the U.S. Postal Service when you get behind the wheel, so let’s protect our most precious commodity — our children.

Mckinney, TX, Main Post Office (MPO) Rural Carrier Rebecca Menchaca (above) received a customer compliment. Dear USPS, Our mail carrier is so kind and amazing at her job. She goes above and beyond. I have an autistic son who is obsessed with watching for trucks, especially the mail truck. When we told her how much he loves watching for her, she brought him a little toy mail truck of his own! He was over the moon and has carried it everywhere ever since. I just want to appreciate how she took the extra time in her day to be kind and say how much it meant to our family. Sincerely, Happy Customer
